 ABOUT THE CAREERIOUS GRAD:

UCLA career center

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to explain yourself, who you are, what you do. Its the first thing employers want to know. So here goes.

Domale Keys is a fellow bruin earning a doctorate in education at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. During her free time, Domale likes to draw, eat and think about her future because it feels a lot better than thinking about what has already passed. She also loves to help others imagine their futures. She received her master's in education from Harvard University and a bachelor's in English at Trinity University.

The gradaute peeer advisor is a graduate student who works at the UCLA Career Center. If you've ever picked up a bus pass or needed a parking pass, you've been in our building, just come to the other side (yes, come to the other side). We are located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Strathmore Building. Need another reason to visit? Sometimes you'll find mints at the reception desk and if you're lucky maybe even a free pen! We grad students know the value of pens, so stop by and see us!

As graduate student peer advisors, we are here to connect you to what's happening in the job world. Even though you are probably enjoying your lab right now, one day, you'll graduate. Yes, we believe in you! And when you do, you'll want what the rest of the world is looking for: a job. That's where we come in. Except, we don't want you to wait until you graduate, we want you to come talk to us the minute you first arrive on campus to start exploring your prospects. Begin and proceed with the end in mind.

The UCLA career center houses an array of resources. Our favorites are the job fairs and the smaller workshops that provide ample opportunities to speak face to face with employers who are looking to hire people like you. Perhaps you are not looking for a job at the moment, but simply want to brush up on your skills including improve your Resume or CV or learn the difference between the two. You can get people wo look over your personal statements for grants and cover letters for positions you really want.  We could say more, but our website has it all. Please visit the career center website at career.ucla.edu.

Meanwhile, be sure to send us a note about anything you see on this blog.
